Abstract

Background: The elderly are a group of people aged 60 years or older High Life Expectancy
causes an increase in anxiety. Anxiety is a psychological condition of a person who is full of
fear and worry, where feelings of fear and worry about something that is not certain will
happen. Anxiety can be experienced by the elderly because the elderly phase is the phase
where the elderly are most vulnerable to problems compared to adolescents, adults and
children. Anxiety in the elderly should be watched out for early because it is feared that it
can affect the course of physical illness and the quality of life of the elderly. One way to
overcome anxiety in the elderly is with tai chi exercises. Purpose: Knowing the effect of Tai
Chi exercise on anxiety in the elderly Research Methods: The research design used QuasiExperimental with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study was 40
elderly people aged 60-90 years with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention was
given for 30 minutes, 4 weeks with 3 meetings. Results: Parametric analysis test using
paired t-test with value p < 0.05 which means there is a significant influence between
anxiety and Tai Chi. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is a
significant influence between anxiety and Tai Chi of p = 0.001
