Abstract

Elderly people will experience some changes in various body physiological system associated with the falls incidence among who have changes in the musculoskeletal, sensory and nerves systems. Its will certainly affect cognitive and attention function to lower the quality of life for elderly at nursing home and the community. Study aims is investigate the differences of falls history based on cognitive and attention between elderly in nursing home and the community is represented by Yayasan Pusaka 41. This is a descriptive study with cross sectional method of 50 elderly people in PSTW Usada Mulia 05 and 50 at Pusaka 41, over 60 years old according to the inclusion criteria. Sampling methods used simple random sampling and than using Chi Square analysis. This study used MMSE and MOCA for the cognitive examination and FDS test for the attention examination. From this study, it is that known there is a difference between history of falls of elderly in nursing home compared the elderly in the community / Pusaka 41 (p <0.05), and also there is a different between history of falls based on attention (p < 0,05) among the elderly in nursing home compared the community / Pusaka 41. But no difference in history of falls based on cognitive (p> 0.05) among the elderly in nursing home compared the community / Pusaka 41. To minimize the incidence of falls in elderly, it may be added the physical activity program to slow the decline in cognitive function especially attention function and improve the quality of physical health. Although cognitive is not the primary caused of fall in eldelry. It is needed in-depth and ongoing analysis about the causes of the high prevalence of falls in the elderly in nursing home since by knowing the cause can be planned the prevention of falls in elderly people so that can be improved quality of life for the elderly people.
