Abstract

Purpose:

This study aims to know the effects of Propoiceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and Acupuncture on Ambulation with Time Up & Go (TUG) Parameter based on age factor. It is also to evaluate ambulation ability after 12 times therapy in National Stroke Hospital Bukittinggi 2010.

Method:

This study used experimental design study with 30 stroke patients. It consists of two groups, the first group is low risk factor with 15 patients (age < 55 years) and the second group is high risk factor with 15 patients (age > 55 years). The effects of Propioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and Acupuncture on Ambulation were evaluated with Time up & Go (TUG) Parameter and were analysed use Non – Parametric Test (Wilcoxon).

Result:

This study showed significan increase in stroke patients in National Stroke Hospital Bukittinggi 2010. Mean of ambulation level increase after intervention from 24, 9±7, 5 to 20, 4±9, 9 for all patients, 24, 0±8, 5 to 20, 5±10, 2 for Low Risk Group (< 55 years), 25, 8±6, 6 to 20, 4±9, 8 for High Risk Group (> 55 years). Based on analysed ambulation level changing before and after intervention, it showed that the increase on High Risk Group higher than Low Risk Group. That can be concluded that age factor is not the first factor which can delay of the increase of ambulation. Interventions of Propioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and Acupuncture increase of ambulation ability with Time Up & Go Parameter (TUG) in stroke patients in National Stroke Hospital Bukittinggi 2010.
