Abstract

Purpose:

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of diaphragm breathing on anxiety of COPD patients based on age risk factors at Rawamangun Persahabatan hospital in 2010. This research was conducted for 4 weeks, 3 times a week. 

 

Method: 

This research was a Quasi-Experimental study design based on the categories below age 70 years and above 70 years age category. With each group consisted of 20 patients with COPD. Breathing diaphragm training program carried out by developing your abdominals as inspiration during expiratory stomach deflate. 

 

Result:

The study shows a significant decrease after the intervention in the age group under 70 years (p <0.05) with – average value of decreased anxiety in 12 people with decreased anxiety 35.64 ± 6.36 while in the age group above 70 years has decreased the value – average value of 38.00 ± 3.03 (p <0.05). Diaphragm breathing exercise can reduces the anxiety that shown through STAI parameters as well as the age below 70  years and over 70 years in patients with COPD in Rawamangun Persahabatan Hospital in 2010.
