Abstract

Purpose:

This study was to evaluate the effect of Pursed Lip Breathing (PLB) Training on Lung Ventilation (FEV1) of COPD patient based on Age Factor in Persahabatan Hospital Rawamangun 2010. It also to evaluate the risk factors of COPD based on age.

Method:

This study was a quasi-experimental design was used with one group consisting of 20 COPD patients. The Pursed Lip Breathing Training program consists of maximum expiration and inspiration with patient was sitting on the chair position. The study had been conducted for 4 weeks, three times a week.

Result:

The study showed a significant increase (p > 0,05) COPD patient between pre and post Pursed Lip Breathing Training (group ≤ 70th years and group > 70th years) on Lung Ventilation (FEV1). Descriptive of risk factor showed that all the patient of COPD average 67,68 ± 7,97 years old and for the group of PLB intervention the average 69,10 ± 6,74 years old. The Pursed Lip Breathing Training program can improve efficiency of functional respiration that show in ventilation parameter (FEV1) showed that in group ≤ 70th years better than group > 70th years  in COPD patient Persahabatan Hospital Rawamangun 2010.
