Abstract

Purpose:
This study is to evaluate the effect of Pursed Lip Breathing (PLB) training on Oxygen Saturation
(SpO2) in COPD patient based on age factor in Persahabatan Hospital Rawamangun 2010. The
program has been conducted for 4 weeks, three times a week.
Method:
This study used a quasi-experimental design consisting of Group ≤70 years and Group >70 years.
Each group consist of 10 patients. The Pursed Lip Breathing Training program consists of maximum
expiration and inspiration with the patients sit on the chair position.
Result:
The study result showed a significant increase (p < 0.025) in COPD patients between pre and post
Pursed Lip Breathing Training for group ≤ 70 years with increase of Oxygen Saturation Mean 4, 1%
and Group > 70 years with increase of Oxygen Saturation Mean 3,4% on Oxygen Saturation
(SpO2). Also, descriptive analyze of risk factors showed that all patients average 69, 10±6, 74
years old, man higher (85%) than women (15%) and smokers higher (70%) than non-smokers
(30%). The pursed lip breathing training program can improve efficiency of oxygen consumption
that was showed by oxygen saturation parameter (SpO2) in group ≤ 70 years and group > 70
years in COPD patients in Persahabatan Hospital Rawamangun 2010.
