Abstract
Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction and depression and anxiety in adolescents aged 12-15 years at the junior high school level. Methods: This study is a further analysis of "Overview of the Use of Electronic Media on Physical Health, Mental Health, and Academic Schools in Junior High School Level Youth in Kramat Jati East Jakarta District in 2018" using the Cross Sectional design. Selected as research locations are four junior high schools in Kramat Jati Subdistrict, East Jakarta. The total sample to be used in this study is 266 samples. With inclusion criteria for adolescents aged 12-15 years, junior high school level (grades 8 and 9), and adolescents who have electronic media. Completion of questionnaires was carried out regarding the level of smartphone addiction,depression and worry. Results: The results showed that the level of smartphone addiction was low in adolescents by 80.6%, while normal anxiety was experienced by all respondents 96.2%. The relationship between smartphone addiction and adolescent anxiety was statistically significant with p < 0.01. and The results showed that the average value of smartphone addiction was 34.33 while the average value of depression was 11.29. The relationship between smartphone addiction and adolescent depression was statistically significant with p > 0.05. Conclusion : There is no statistically significant relationship between smartphone addiction and depression and anxiety aged 12-15 years at the junior high school level in the Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta.
