Abstract

Abstract

Objectives : This study aims to examine the relationship between the level of use of social media with depression and anxiety in adolescents aged 12-15 years. Methods : This research is a further analysis of the research "Overview of the Use of Electronic Media on Physical Health, Mental Health, and School Academics in Junior High School (SMP) Youth in Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, 2018" which uses a Cross Sectional design . The total sample to be used in this study is 315 samples. With the inclusion criteria of adolescents aged 12-15 years, junior high school level (grades 8 and 9), and adolescents who have electronic media. The questionnaire was filled out regarding the level of use of social media, depression and anxiety. Result : The results showed that the highest level of social media use was at the moderate level of 143 people (45.4%) and the highest depression was in the normal category, namely 210 people (66.7%). The results of the relationship with r (0.065) and the statistical relationship p <0.05 and the assessment of social media use with anxiety showed that there was a relationship between social media use and anxiety with p <0.003. Conclusion : There is a low and statistically significant relationship between the level of social media use and depression and a weak relationship between social media use and anxiety has a weak correlation with the r value (0.278) in adolescents aged 12-15 years.
