Abstract
Objective : To examine the relationship between the use of social media with adolescent academic results and self-esteem aged 12-15 years in Four Junior High Schools in the Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta, 2018. Method: This study uses a cross sectional study and further analysis of the research "Overview of the Use of Electronic Media. The total sample in this study was 315 adolescents in Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta. Examination of the level of social media usage using the Social networking time use scale (SONTUS). As for academic results, it uses questions about the results of report cards in the last semester.Result: From the results of the study, adolescents with good and very good academic grades for passing subjects had more numbers than poor academic scores, as many as 195 (61.9%) teenagers had. The most social media users are the average user category, namely as many as 143 teenagers (45.4%). Good academic scores on SNS users are low and on average have more numbers than high and very high SNS users with correlation results r = -0.029 and p = 0.577. and the results showed that teenagers who used social media on average were 143 students (45.4%) and normal self-esteem were 236 students (74.9%), with correlation results r = 0.171 and p value = 0.002. Conclusion : Based on research conducted by the author in the Kramat Jati sub-district, East Jakarta, the results obtained that the level of use of social media with academic results does not have a relationship with the direction of the relationship inversely and statistically not meaningful and the research that has been conducted by the author at the Junior High School of Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, it was found that the use of social media with self-esteem has a weak and statistically significant relationship.
