Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and adolescent adjustment at MA ATTAQWA Tangerang City. Parental parenting patterns in this study were measured based on the dimensions of demandingness and responsiveness according to Baumrind, while adolescent self-adjustment was measured based on aspects of adaptation, conformity and mastery efforts. This research uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods. The research sample consisted of 69 class X students selected through saturated sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out using a scale of parenting patterns and a scale of adolescent adjustment which had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of data analysis using the Pearson correlation test showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between parental parenting and adolescent adjustment (r = 0.330, p < 0.05). This shows that the better the parents' parenting style, the higher the adolescent's ability to adapt. The majority of students are in the moderate adjustment category, which shows that they are quite capable of adapting to the social and academic environment. The results of this study strengthen previous findings which state that parenting styles have an important role in shaping adolescents' independence and social skills.
