Abstract

Background and Aim : The use of digital technology in the modern era is mostly gadgets and its use is not only adults but also preschool children. The use of gadgets by children in statically inappropriate positions for a long time can affect their body posture. Bad posture can lead to abnormal bone growth and increase other health risks. This research aims analyze the intensity of gadgets, the state of static posture and the relationship between gadget intensity and static posture in preschool children at PAUD Bougenville Cawang in 2024.

Method: The research design is a cross-sectional study with a research sample of 27 respondents selected using the saturated sampling method. Gadget intensity was measured using a gadget usage duration questionnaire according to the American Academic of Pediatrics and static posture was measured using the Reedco Posture Assessment. Data analysis was carried out including univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with chi-square test and spearman’s rho correlation test.

Results: In this study, the results of gadget intensity showed that gadget intensity was ≥1 hour/day for 27 children with a percentage of 100%. In the poor category, there were 22 children with a percentage of 81.5%, and there were 5 children in the good category with a percentage of 18.5%. In the Chi square test, the p value is 0.007, where p<0.05 indicates that there is a significant relationship between gadget intensity and posture. The correlation coefficient (R) test result is -0.659, which means that the higher the intensity of the gadget, the worse the posture with a strong and significant level of relationship because the sig value is less than 0.05.

Conclusions: From the results of this research, it can be concluded that there is a significant and strong relationship between gadget intensity and the static posture of preschool children. It is recommended for future researchers to develop research topics, for parents and society to pay attention to the impact of gadgets on children's posture.
