Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is lower abdominal pain, felt centrally in the suprapubic area and can radiate to the lower back and hind legs, which is commonly experienced by women of all ages. Indonesia is a country that lacks understanding of dysmenorrhea, this is evidenced by 60-70% of women who do not understand how to deal with dysmenorrhea. Effleurage massage is a movement to touch the stomach or back that is rubbed lightly with a calm rhythm from the distal to the proximal direction. Effleurage massage can relieve menstrual pain experienced by women. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of effleurage massage on dysmenorrhea in young women. Method: Literature review using PICO search on the Google Scholar database. Results: There were eight articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study. Statistical test results in eight literatures show that massage effleurage has a major effect on reducing dysmenorrhea in young women as indicated by the average value obtained, namely p-value 0.000, which means α > 0.05. Conclusion: Giving effleurage massage at least once a day for 5-15 minutes from the first day of experiencing dysmenorrhea in young women can reduce the intensity of the dysmenorrhea scale, because effleurage massage can increase blood flow and sensory nerves to prevent pain transmission.
