Purpose:
Cupping therapy is a form of traditional medicine services currently most viable alternative for treatment of the lower classes. This study discusses aspects of the patient safety in this therapeutic therapy that could occur as a result of therapist competence that do not meet the standard operating procedures.
Method:
The study is a qualitative descriptive design (cross sectional study).
Result:
The study concluded that cupping therapy posses, in principle, no negative effects in the body and could be safely administered to humans. The therapy, however, still needs to be administered under guidance, especially pertaining the competence of the therapist as there is still a gap between basic education and vocational education. The therapist also must have a legal umbrella organization recognized by the relevant government agency.
