Abstract

One of the problems in the elderly over 65 years is the tendency of falling that can lead to injury. Coordination of information and activity in response to the movements required to maintain balance in the elderly is declining with age because of a problem in the nervous system. In the elderly even in small amount of activities, more attention and vigilance are required for the visual system as an effort to compensate for the decline in the response of proprioceptive and weak muscle strength, especially of the lower limbs in order to maintain balance and avoid falling and thus rely more on hip strategy. Assessment with advanced tools have been widely in use in hospitals to diagnose the cause of a balance disorder. One of the tools is the Integrated Balance Strength Systems ™, developed by the Med-Fit Systems and IDS. Instruments that are simple and practical without using expensive tools have also been developed and can be grouped in the category of static balance tests, functional, sensory manipulation and combination. With a balance test, physiotherapy exercises can be done more precisely.
